Tampa’s mayor flummoxes Fox goons

President Obama is a fairly tall person and a friendly, personable guy according to people who’ve met him. Sometimes, when greeting shorter folks, he’ll briefly stoop down to their level while shaking hands, possibly to avoid the appearance of sneering haughtily down his nose at them.

Fox News has devoted copious amounts of coverage to this important issue, portraying the president as a serial bower-and-scraper who shuffles along deferentially on his knees worldwide to America’s everlasting shame. Yesterday, they booked Mayor Pam Iorio of Tampa on Fox & Friends so they could advance that narrative. It didn’t go well for them:

Mayor Pam refused to play their game. When Kilmeade and Doocy repeatedly tried to make a big deal of Obama’s greeting, the mayor used their openings to praise the president’s graciousness, talk about the importance of the high-speed rail project he came to town to announce and express incredulity at the level of “analysis” devoted to Obama’s so-called bow.

The backstage producers must have been frantically screeching the next talking point into Kilmeade and Doocy’s earpieces because both then tried to characterize Obama’s visit disparagingly as a campaign stop. Mayor Pam turned that table on them as well, noting that she was impressed by Obama’s ability to answer random questions from the town hall meeting audience in great detail.

In short, Mayor Pam made Kilmeade and Doocy look like the empty-headed, smirking douchebags they are. Well done, Mayor Pam!

They must think she’s a filthy furriner since her last name isn’t Smith. Or Murdoch.

“The quicker the trains go, the quicker I get home.”  That’s some gold plated analysis right there.  Jesus.

I absolutely never watch Fox or even clips of Fox. I thought I’d go ahead and watch this one. It is like experiencing an alternate universe. Truly, truly bizarre.

Those who try and equate Fox with MSNBC are out of their minds. And the dkos poll about crazy Republicans suddenly makes a bit more sense.

And the dkos poll about crazy Republicans suddenly makes a bit more sense.

It’s a worrisome development, Evie—this complete fusion of a political party and media conglomerate. It would be less troubling if the so-called straight media didn’t feel compelled to alter their coverage to try to shave off some of the GOP surreality show’s viewers, but they do.

So far, that arrangement has resulted in a cowed media rolling over for a ruinous war built on false pretenses, an alarming loss of civil liberties, etc. Someday it could result in even worse outcomes. And I’m not sure there’s a damn thing we can do about it.

I don’t know how effective that mayor was though.  She may have plugged HSR and everything, but she completely failed to diffuse the shocking revelation that Obama is an asian communist muslim who is intent on subverting congress and the American people by entering into various global cap-and-tax proposals through submissive body language.

Jeezus fuck, these creeps don’t even bother pretending—didja hear the one say “oops” when it was clear she wasn’t going to advance their narrative?

Oh, I don’t know, rubbernecker, I thought Mayor Iorio was great.  The Fox crew made a big mistake trying to use her to light their firecracker.  She revealed them for the complete idiots they are.

I am more often disappointed viewing clips that are advertised as a punking of the rightwing wienies, but this one definitely delivered.

That being said, people who regularly watch that show don’t have two brain cells to rub together, and I would imagine their reaction would be to immediately erase the episode from their minds.  There were probably a few though whose heads exploded on impact of her rational words.

Classy guy, Obama. I love the whole bowing thing, which is very cool and very sweet from a guy who tends to tower over people. Hardly the behavior of a sociopathic narcissist.

Michelle is also very classy. In fact, she makes Eleanor Roosevelt look like Margaret Dumont’s practice dummy for pie-throwing scenes.

She not only revealed them as slavering trivia-mongers—she did it so politely and rationally that they were reduced to wondering why on earth their trousers hit the floor while the nice lady was speaking.

Unfortunately, what KM says is probably true—most F&F viewers likely only registered a DOES NOT COMPUTE error message. Still, I think Mayor Iorio showed us how it’s done.

Yes, Betty, like you said the other day - she is teh awesome!

That being said, people who regularly watch that show don’t have two brain cells to rub together, and I would imagine their reaction would be to immediately erase the episode from their minds.  There were probably a few though whose heads exploded on impact of her rational words.

And the rest took up their fat crayons and paper bags and wrote: MAyur Irioriori lurves soshalims and mooslins!

Wow, she’s one cool customer. And somehow gracious at the same time. Probably dooms her in polytiks.

“‘People said’ the president of the United States should not bow to anyone around the world.” WTF?

What is the Fox crew’s position on the POTUS hand-holdin’ with other dooodes?

Yeah, every time I hear one of these Fox morons shriek about Obama bowing to the Saudi King the image of Bush strolling hand in hand and kissing Prince Abdullah on the lips.

This “bowing scandal” meme is a perfect example of the extraordinary dishonesty that the Fox fringe pushes every minute of the day.

It’s like you can hear them shouting, “Come on! Who can be more stupid!  I know you are capable of being more stupid still!”

Here’s another amazing factoid about Mayor Iorio: She was an election supervisor in Central FL back during the election 2000 debacle, and she didn’t screw up!

While the entire nation watched in horror as other FL county election officials gawped at hanging chads and lamely tried to explain buggered-up ballots, Iorio had her ducks in a row and was able to conduct recounts, certify totals, etc., without looking like a pole-axed rube.

Betty Cracker, every bit of your analysis on this was so spot on, it bears repeating:

I agree completely with you and the rest that all picked up on this.  Fox & Friends aka “Morons in the Morning” is nothing but a constant douchebag parade pandering to dim-witted fuckwits who sadly, not only feed off of this shit but who are probably unable to even comprehend that the Mayor just completely made them look like the tool tards that they are.

Perhaps Fox News viewers have never stood on a tarmac and attempted to make conversation with someone over the roar of jet engines.

There is an automatic reaction in noisy situations to move your ears closer to the source of the sound you are attempting to isolate in the din.

Watch people talk in bars.

I think she was taking a jab at chickengeorge bushs scripted town halls. that made me laugh

What a cool customer Mayor Iorio is!

I’ll bet you cash money she knew exactly what crap those twits were going to push, and she just sailed right above it. “I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about. The president is a really nice man. Let me tell you about high-speed rail.”

Betty,

Spot on.  They only had one play in the playbook called and it was “Make Obama seem incompetent for having manners.”  When the Mayor wouldn’t fall for it, they were flummoxed and started stuttering…

nice catch…
