Tampa’s mayor flummoxes Fox goons
President Obama is a fairly tall person and a friendly, personable guy according to people who’ve met him. Sometimes, when greeting shorter folks, he’ll briefly stoop down to their level while shaking hands, possibly to avoid the appearance of sneering haughtily down his nose at them.
Fox News has devoted copious amounts of coverage to this important issue, portraying the president as a serial bower-and-scraper who shuffles along deferentially on his knees worldwide to America’s everlasting shame. Yesterday, they booked Mayor Pam Iorio of Tampa on Fox & Friends so they could advance that narrative. It didn’t go well for them:
Mayor Pam refused to play their game. When Kilmeade and Doocy repeatedly tried to make a big deal of Obama’s greeting, the mayor used their openings to praise the president’s graciousness, talk about the importance of the high-speed rail project he came to town to announce and express incredulity at the level of “analysis” devoted to Obama’s so-called bow.
The backstage producers must have been frantically screeching the next talking point into Kilmeade and Doocy’s earpieces because both then tried to characterize Obama’s visit disparagingly as a campaign stop. Mayor Pam turned that table on them as well, noting that she was impressed by Obama’s ability to answer random questions from the town hall meeting audience in great detail.
In short, Mayor Pam made Kilmeade and Doocy look like the empty-headed, smirking douchebags they are. Well done, Mayor Pam!
