Len, I seriously think one of the best tings my parents did for me was to repeat with mantra-like regularity “When you live under your own roof, you can make your own rules.” Result? I figured out early on that making my own money and paying my own way was pretty damn liberating even if I had to live in a total dive. And it also meant I wasn’t moving back into their basement.

Which, given how spidery and prone to sump-pump overflow said basement was, is a good thing.

(And happy birthday to my dad, who would have been 77 today.)
