That thing Ann Althouse said about not liking “American Idol”

“You’re actually seeing me watching American Idol. I don’t really like the show. You probably think I’m a big fan but I don’t even really like it.” We’ve heard those lines dissected, attacked, and defended over and over. Let’s talk about those words.
And let’s also talk about immediately (and laughably) disproving one’s own initial statement by then exhibiting a giddy, encyclopedic knowledge of the reality show and trying to catch the reflection of the broadcast in the window over one’s shoulder and in one’s well-worn wine glass. I know someone who does that at times, and I’ve given a lot of thought to what it signifies. I have my theory, but I’ll save it until some of you weigh in.
UPDATE: Believe it or not, it gets worse. “[H]er hand is dead center in her enormous crotch, pawing at her cooch.” WTF? Anyone?
