The Best Laid Plans . . .UPDATED AGAIN
Well, MY plan, at least, was to get the bulk of my garden in today since the forecast a couple of days ago was for 70 degrees. As usual Mother Nature laughed at the pretensions of Rocky Mountain front range weather forecasters and gave us an overcast, low 40’s, drizzly, yuck day so there goes the plan. Instead I’ll hop on the “post a picture of your pet” bandwagon and share the indenver menagerie with you guys. In order of age (but not necessarily relative dominance ;-) ):
Larry the beaufarie:

OK, he’s actually a mutt. But he looks like he should be something and people are always asking me what that is. So the hubbie invented “beaufarie” (pronounced bo-fair-ee). Its origin? “Larry, Larry, bo barry; banana, fanna, fo, farry, fee, fie, mo, marry; Larry!”
We actually did genetic testing on him a couple of years ago (when the prices finally came down enough that you would even consider such a thing!) and learned that he’s about 40% chow chow; 20% each golden retriever and bearded collie and the rest a mix with a nice dose of chihuahua in there! That was some gutsy chihuahua to mate with any of those other dogs and definitely accounts for some of his personality traits. But all in all he’s a very energetic 12 year old sweetheart of a beaufarie.
More below the fold.
Next up is the world’s sweetest cat, Ginger Pea:

Now I know these things are subjective but I’ve had a lot of cats over my lifetime and I honestly can’t remember one as sweet, friendly and easy going as Ginger. She even meets me at the garage door when I come home from work! From what I understand this type of temperatment is not uncommon in ginger cats so I’d have to say that’s worth keeping in mind when you’re looking for a cat. Ginger was a rescue from a shelter. Poor baby has a slightly shredded ear from some sort of past life confrontation but none of that has affected her delightful personality.
Some of you will recognize Lulu the defective sheltie:

Defective in that her ears, instead of pricking like a sheltie’s should did a big flop at about 8 months and stayed there. In other respects she is all sheltie - she’ll herd anything that walks and firmly believes she is in charge of everything at all times.
Lulu’s main claim to fame is that, while chasing after her as she attempted to round up some passing moose up in the mountains, I slipped and fell and broke my ankle probably about as badly as you can break it without snapping it off. Yeah, not cool. Lulu has yet to recognize the error of her ways but she’s also adorable and loving so I’m not one to hold a grudge. This time. ;-)
Rounding up the group is our baby Twyla Moon:

Twyla, another rescue cat, is gorgeous, fluffy, floppy, affectionate and as neurotic as the summer days are long. She can go from being a floppy stuffed toy to a crazed creature bouncing off of the ceiling in about one second flat. The list of things that scare her is too long to post here but carbonation is one of them. (Yes, carbonation. Put a can of soda where she can hear it and SHE’S OUTTA HERE!) However we’ve learned to see this as a feature rather than a flaw and, after bandaging the scratches, chuckle reminiscently over the latest. The purple collar you see poking out of her fur is soaked with kitty prozac and we have plug-in happy-time pheromone dispensers around the house. I’ll let you know how it’s working if it ever makes a difference.
Rainy day pet open thread commences.
UPDATE:
Just remembered that daughter kc uploaded this video of Lulu as a puppy playing with Ginger when Lulu was about 7 or 8 months old:
UPDATE II:
So kc quite reasonably poses the question “why aren’t my cats in this post!!??”
So here are Serenity (top) and Zinn:

The omission was only because they live with kc and not with us and nothing to do with the fact that the name Serenity has not the least bit to do with the personality of this bossy and controlling cat. (Kidding!! She’s a sweetie, honest!!)
