The Big Tent Party and the Maverick

ABC’s Jan Crawford Greenburg reports: It wasn’t until Sunday night that John McCain, after meeting with his four top advisers, finally decided he could not tap independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut to be his running mate. One adviser, tasked with taking the temperature of the conservative base, had strongly made the case to McCain that it would be a disaster for the party and that the base would revolt. McCain concluded he could not go that route.

As I wrote in the comments there:

Was the base upset that Lieberman didn’t have enough solid PTA experience? Or was it because Hadassah is TEH SUCK on snow machines?

SOMEWHAT RELATED: It’s not just Hillary’s supporters who aren’t going to fall for this pick. After the extremely successful DNC (and Obama’s great speech), McCain is losing some of his own supporters with this transparently reckless pick.

Absolutely loved that story on the Clintonistas website because that is the exact same thing my 84 year mom told me about a couple of her friends she talked to this morning. She is a moderate Republican who has been supporting Obama for awhile but her friends have been on the fence. The are all Obamacans now thanks to his terrific speech and McLoonyTunes ludicrous response to it. Th-th-th-thas all folks!

OK, now if we had seen even a smidgen of this at the DNC this past week, the PUMASSES might have been a news story. How much ya wanna bet that the media darlings completely ignore the truly divided party in the coming week of “Whitey, Whitey and Whitey LLC”?

WASHINGTON — There’s no room at the Xcel Energy Center for maverick Ron Paul, so his acolytes have packed their cars, hitched rides on “Ronvoys” and will pitch tents at Ronstock ‘08 in Minneapolis in defiance of next week’s GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn.

Almost 9,800 tickets had been sold for the Rally for the Republic, which seeks to bring together activists who are anti-war, anti-government regulation, anti-immigration, anti-taxes, anti-Federal Reserve, anti-outsourcing, pro-individual liberty, pro-civil liberties and pro-Paul.

The Ronvoys—fleets of buses and vans carrying Paul’s loyalists—were to begin arriving Saturday. A few rally-goers planned to walk from Green Bay, Wis., and join up with Paul for the final miles of their Walk4Freedom. Other attendees are driving, carpooling or flying in for the convention alternative.

Paul, a Texas congressman who failed in a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, considers the rally a celebration of traditional Republican values of limited government _ and a poke in the eye of the GOP. They don’t plan to crash the Republican party, but to show they and their Campaign for Liberty are not going away.

LindafromTX #26 — this is absolutely not a LOVE MCCAIN blog. Today is a day of upheaval. The news of a woman Republican VP pick is understandably BIG NEWS.

We need to settle down a bit and remember our Dem Principles.
