The Late Late Show’s Craig Ferguson eviscerates John McCain and Wall Street

Everyone’s talking about David Letterman pummeling John McCain and rightly so, it was great, but in many ways Craig Ferguson’s opening monologue on The Late Late Show was even better.  This isn’t all of it (still looking), but these two video clips include most of the spot-on (and controversial) stuff.

His explanation of the ugly bond between democracy and capitalism and lines like “Where is the government bailout of the 10 million uninsured children?” are things I’d like to see a lot more on late night talk shows.  Bravo and ... more, please.

UPDATE: For the benefit of our wonderful deaf readers, a diarist at Daily Kos has transcribed some of Ferguson’s monologue here.

Allowing for the fact that I am a sucker for a Scottish accent, I have to say that Ferguson is probably the best monologist on late-night right now. Did you see his rant a couple weeks ago about how people have to pay as much attention to the political process as they do reality television and register to vote—“Or it’s your fault if we end up with President Sanjaya?” I guess as a newly minted U.S. citizen, he’s more engaged than a lot of us who were born here!

He also won a ton of respect from me (not that he would care, of course!) when he stood up for Britney when her woes were in high gear a year or so ago. Basically, he said he knew what it was like to have an addiction and make stupid choices, but he was lucky that he didn’t have to go through it while he was in the public eye and he thought everyone should back the fuck off for a while.

That was a brilliant monologue by Ferguson. You could tell he was pretty pissed off at the end. This is spot on.

He told it like it IS. I may stay a bit later and watch the next show.

“Where is the government bailout of the 10 million uninsured children?”

That’s what you call “right down the middle of the motherfucking plate”.

First they teach us about The Blues™ and now we have to learn democracy from the blimey bastards? heh.
