The Murder of Census Worker Bill Sparkman: Deep Breaths, Progosphere

As much as I’d like to blame the horrible murder of census worker Bill Sparkman on manipulative soul-suckers like Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann, everyone should pay special attention to this paragraph regarding the area of Kentucky where Sparkman’s body was found:

Investigators are saying little about the crime, but some people wonder if his death in the remote part of southeastern Kentucky known for its meth labs and hidden marijuana fields had less to do with his job than simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I’d advise everyone to chill out until more facts come in. This could have absolutely nothing to do with teabaggery.

It shall be interesting to see where this leads.  I hope that Bachmann is wondering herself.

I’d like to think that this was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I know that area of KY fairly well so I know it can happen.

However, I don’t think it’s typical to hang a guy from a tree and scrawl “Fed” in his chest (if true); the last thing those people want is to bring attention on themselves. If it was a simple case of him wandering into a compromising situation, it’s much more likely that he would have simply “disappeared”.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, Tom, but the murderers could have used that as a distraction. Not a smart move, but plausible. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m pretty sure the “FED” part is real, though.

I hope that Bachmann is wondering herself.

Considering that tons of people were Tweeting her yesterday with the equivalent of “are you happy now?”, I’m sure that she is.

Actually, I hope you’re right, Kevin. If they end up hauling someone in who ends up being some sort of teabagger/birfer/puma or such things could get really ugly.

If they end up hauling someone in who ends up being some sort of teabagger/birfer/puma or such things could get really ugly.

If they don’t, we’ve got Eric Rudolph II— another backwoods terrorist legend.  And now the time is right for a lot of followers.

Anyway, what Tom65 said is right, it’s almost certainly political.

Unfortunately this isn’t uncommon. So far as I can remember every census year there’s at least one crime against a census worker that makes the national news.

Moonshiners and Beck/Bachmann enthusiasts aren’t mutually exclusive, I suspect.

It would be irresponsible not to speculate.
Jess sayin’.

I’m very sorry for this fellow and especially for his family, who must be beside themselves with the horror of it all. I’m willing to bet in response, the wingers will be investigating his countertops before week’s end.

Above all else, blame the victim.

The hatred and fear of census workers in any case makes me want to strangle idiots like the aforementioned, and that’s not good, since I am a census worker.

I’m willing to bet in response, the wingers will be investigating his countertops before week’s end.

And claiming that they’re suffering 500 times more than the vic. or his family because a possible LIEberul looked at them funny.

Above all else, <strike>blame</strike> become the victim.

fxd.

I’m with you, Kevin.  I don’t want to jump to conclusions and be wrong.

And “Fed” might not even be an attempt at misdirection—in drug territory, I suppose it might be a way of saying, “This is what we do to federal drug agents.”

From what I have been reading, that rural area is known for meth labs and marijuana growing. Anyone who is perceived as a federal agent is going to be walking into a hornet’s nest and so that is a distinct possibility.

Also, showing my ignorance here, but do the people who live in these secluded rural areas listen to a lot of talk radio/tv? I’m not being obtuse or condescending, but this doesn’t sound like the typical type of teabaggers one normally associates with the Bachman/Malking crowd. Or are they?

The fact that the murder took place on Sept 12th does tweak my radar, however. And the fact that he was hanged, hmmmm. I don’t know, so I guess we’ll have to see what the final results are from the investigation. I just hope the authorities are handling it all very carefully. They didn’t release the story until two weeks after it happened, which is also suspect.

From Neal Boortz’s tweets:

“From this point on ... any and all acts of political violence in the U.S., from the left or the right, are to be blamed on talk radio”

And program notes from Boortz:

“One thing for certain ... suicide or murder, this is going to be seized on by the left to paint all Americans concerned with government growth, and especially all Americans who are opposed to our intrusive census, as homicidal maniacs. This is the way the left works.”

Suicide? Really? He wrote “FED” across his chest and jumped out of the tree?

Get ready for the stupid. They’re going to have to tap dance pretty hard to make this one fly.

“One thing for certain ... suicide or murder, this is going to be seized on by the left to paint all Americans concerned with government growth, and especially all Americans who are opposed to our intrusive census, as homicidal maniacs. This is the way the left works.”

For all values of people with IQs above room temperature, yes.

Does anyone know at what point the census changed from being a measurement of our demographics to a tool of the wicked LIEBERALS to . . . to . . . to . . . what???

To put teabaggers in the FEMA death camps, of course.

Count me in with the “jumping to conclusions” crowd for one simple reason, drug dealers and meth lab peeps do everything possible to keep law enforcement and the feds AWAY from their turf, the LAST THING THEY WANT is the forest crawling with law enforcement and the feds looking for evidence.  I suspect that those people (drug people) are royally pissed off at whomever did this and therefore shining a light on their little endeavours, it may end up that the perp gets a taste of the same “justice”.
