The White House media strategy—now with visual aids!

As noted in this space in the past (via Jon Stewart), Fox & Friends’ Gretchen Carlson isn’t really dumber than a bag of frozen okra. It’s just her job to pretend to be an empty-headed dimwit so as to appeal to the network’s target audience—the slack-jawed, vacant-eyed yahoo demographic. And boy did Carlson ever fulfill that contractual obligation splendidly yesterday in a segment on President Obama’s deficit speech.

Instead of focusing on the content of the speech, the Fox crew pounced on a 30-second clip of VP Biden with his eyes closed. Was he in deep concentration? Suppressing a fart? Nodding off? Regardless, this is clearly a more fruitful line of inquiry than trying to parse dumb old budget numbers or evaluate competing visions of America’s future:

Carlson: See, now here’s my take on it: Had the president broken out graphs and charts like Paul Ryan did and maybe even did a little video insert like Paul Ryan did, he would have kept people’s attention.

Jesus H. God, Gretchen Carlson—you are good at your job, O Snark’s Sultry Slayer! Still, we who only sit and mock must soldier on as best we can…

Meanwhile, in the White House Situation Room…

Later that evening…

This could totally work. Remember: an administration governs with the informed citizenry it has, not the informed citizenry it wants.

Oh, that was good.

All kidding aside, though, it’s an idea worth pondering. There has to be some way to appeal to the knuckledraggers.

I nearly spit out my drink!  Thanks for all you do Betty, keeping our collective stress levels low in light of this country’s stupidity.

I love you guys!  so funny…

Perfect!  Nice Pshop work.

Seriously, Jon Stewart’s graph magic on Tuesday night’s show is the single best thing to show Americans and ‘Murikens alike: the debt with the tax cuts for those over $250k, and without those tax cuts.  It is simply amazing what a difference that makes in the slope of the upward trend.

Huh, maybe that’s why Obama has said no way in hell to letting the fat-cat tax cuts get re-enacted when they expire in 2 years.  Of course, in firebagger land it was likely met with a “yeah, right, and pigs will fly out my ass but only after they take my penis”.  Nothing like perpetual downerism to make a real political movement…

Carlson may be just as smart as one okra.  But, there is no way she matches up against the collective wisdom of a bag of okra.

There has to be some way to appeal to the knuckledraggers.

I’m sure there is. It would probably involve a visual extravaganza that merges Wrestle Mania with a monster truck rally though.

I think the FOX viewing knuckledragger GOP base crowd are already dumbed down to near the level seen in the movie Idiocracy.

Therefore, the only way to explain anything to them would require the the discussion to start of with kicking someone in the balls first.

So Obama really is a closet Republican!  That’s why you put the donkey on his right hand, right?!

Speedy - no, that’s our justice system. As I’ve always said, Idiocracy is not a movie, it’s a documentary!

Obama should’ve just come out with a big Venn diagram, one circle labeled “total nutjobs” and the other “unrealistic whackaloons” with the overlapping area labeled “all I’ve got to work with here, people”.

As I’ve always said, Idiocracy is not a movie, it’s a documentary!

Sadly enough ,it seems like every passing day brings us that much closer to that statement being reality. given the plethora of moronic reality teevee shows out there , would a show called “Ow My Balls!” really be out of place?

Preach it, Casey!

@Casey ~ perfect!

@casey, you said it.  That would be the perfect chart.

Lord.  This woman is from MN and is NOT stupid—which makes her ‘golly, I’m so dumb’ act even more offensive.

would a show called “Ow My Balls!” really be out of place?

Tosh.0 or whatever the fuck that horrible thing is already has it covered.

Casey,
Perfect. And Betty, thanks for all you do to keep us all sane.  I saw Biden in a cutaway during the speech and I have to say he looked like a Grandpa watching his grandson deliver the star speech on debate team.  He looked so proud I thought he was going to bust his buttons, if people still did that sort of thing.

This whole “eyes closed photo” thing reminds me that they also ran with some picture of Obama listening to Biden with his eyes closed at one point—anyone remember that?  The implication was that Obama simply couldn’t stand Biden and was bored by him. Normal people saw an honest portrait of two men who are both exhausted but also both still working hard at getting their message out.

I’ve really given up thinking that a picture is worth a thousand words. I mean, it is, but its a different thousand words for every viewer.

Colbert tried to steal your thunder, Betty!
