Things Nature Might Conceivably Abhor More Than a Vacuum, #3

The new Three Stooges movie.

Yeah, I know the Farrellys are behind this. But other than Lenny or Chaplin, when was the last time you didn’t wince at watching a contemporary actor try to recreate classic shtick that’s already perfected in memory? (Man on the Moon, anyone?)

And just in case you were holding out hope that this would be a respectably earnest biopic dramatizing the off-screen lives of the Howard boys and Larry Fine, the IMDB plot synopsis suggests you’re going to be deeply disappointed:

While trying to save their childhood orphanage, Moe, Larry, and Curly inadvertently stumble into a murder plot and wind up starring in a reality TV show.

Sounds like The Blues Brothers meets Hollywoodland in a handbasket to Hell’s Kitchen.

Why I oughtaaaaaa !!!!!!!!

I’ve got a confession to make: I cannot stand the Three Stooges. Mr. Cracker seems to think this signifies some deep flaw in my character. But from non-scientific polling of friends, I suspect the Three Stooges are primarily a GUY thing.

At least the Farellys aren’t soiling the memory of the Ritz Brothers. I couldn’t stand the sacrilege.

Oh good god - Snooki (the real one) is in the cast. Damn you to hell, Hollywood.

I suspect the Three Stooges are primarily a GUY thing.

Pretty much. Alas, I guess Mr. Cracker never read Page 73 of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Marriageable Bachelors, which states:

If the woman you think you love does not appreciate “Disorder in the Court” or “We Want Our Mummy” — wherein the Stooges search an Egyptian tomb for the mummies of King Rootentooten and his wife, Queen Hotsitotsi — it’s not really love, just infatuation. A hot guy like you can do better.

Sounds like Blues Brothers 2000 meets Hollywoodland in a handbasket to Hell’s Kitchen.

Fixed.

@Surreal American —Definitely better. Thanks.

I can’t wait to not see this.

I like the 3 Stooges. Still, four words come to mind: Nuke it from orbit.

IIRC we settled the “3 Stooges is a Guy Thing” proposition in a thread a couple of years ago - for some reason I think a discussion of Sarah Palin, then newly on the scene, may have precipitated it.

But it’s true.  I can’t stand the 3 Stooges and looking at the cast list of this thing it looks like it will be beyond awful.  Why would Jane Lynch DO something like this to her career? ;-)

I’m with ya Mar, Lynch is comedy gold and just looking at these three .... these three .... people makes me angry, much in the way Dr. Banner got angry and you won’t like me when I’m angry.

If it’s a guy thing, then I must have a partial deletion on my Y chromosome that handles such things - because I LOTHE the Three Stooges.  I find them hugely overrated and unfunny.

A remake of the stooges just sounds like the movie version of eating stale moldy store-brand grape nuts.  The original is bad enough, why make it worse?

Patrick, it could be worse. This could be the Abbott & Costello story.

Anybody know how much they paid Joe the Plumber to play Curly?

Oooooooooooookaaaayyyyy ... note to self, cross McKinnion off Thanksgiving Day card list, add name and blog home to death list for EVAR!

In order to erase this abomination from my mind I will be pulling out my collection of all things Stooge DVDs and doing a marathon of their shorts (movies ya perverts!) this Sunday.  So there you Knuckleheads!

I’m with the lay-dees (and Patrick) on this one.  Can’t stand the Three Stooges.  That said, this is gonna blow chunks.

@asiangrrlMN — Let me be the first to acknowledge that, if you can’t stand the original Stooges, watching a movie featuring knock-off Stooge re-enactors is likely about as appealing as looking at naked pictures of a stranger who isn’t your mother, but looks like her.

signifies some deep flaw in my character. But from non-scientific polling of friends, I suspect the Three Stooges are primarily a GUY thing.

I’m there with you, Mrs C. I think a strand of DNA unzipped when it should have unzagged. Who knows?

But Monty Python is GOLDEN.

Agreed 100%, Knittingbull. I luuuurve Monty Python. I’m also an avid football and baseball nut, so it’s not like I can’t appreciate some things that are supposed to be “guy” things. But the Stooges leave me cold.
