“Undefeated” Pulls “Atlas Shrugged” BO Numbers in Debut Weekend

The Spring and Summer of not-quite-straight-to-video Conservative cult movies continues apace.

Pretty good per-screen numbers for The Undefeated. That’s on a par with Atlas Shrugged, which tanked the week after it opened and never secured a wider release.

Question: What’s the Venn Diagram analysis of Sarah Fans and Atlas Fans? Total overlap, or does she have a broader base? And, if so, will her film have a more devastating impact on Christmas than Santa Claus Conquers the Martians?

[UPDATE:] Looks like The Undefeated will pull better than Atlas Shrugged for the full weekend, so I think we’re officially talking a Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla take in terms of total North American sales, rather than SCCTM. Cultural-impact-wise, I think we’re still well south of Death Race 2000, which is right where we want it to be.

But, but, it sold out in Grapevine, TX:

“The Undefeated,” a glowing look at failed vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has already sold out a show in Grapevine, Texas (population 46,000), according to the distributor Cinedigm.

Grapevine isn’t exactly a teeming metropolis but the film is set to roll out across Tea Party country in 10 AMC theaters.

It opened strong!(In my best Randall nature narrator voice).

What’s the Venn Diagram analysis of Sarah Fans and Atlas Fans?

My team of researchers has found that both nearly-coincident circles are neatly encompassed by the viewing audience of the blockbuster that changed contemporary cinema forever, An American Carol.

Total overlap, or does she have a broader base?

Sarah herself, no - she keeps it pretty trim. But her fans’ bases overlap the sides of their Hoveround seats.

Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Rotten Tomatoes has no concensus yet, but all of the posted film critics gave it splats.

Why aren’t we using Obama’s Private Army to intimidate people from entering these theaters?

i think it highly likely that a majority of palinistas (possibly including former governor snowflake snooki herself) have never even heard of ayn rand.

Atlas Fans could have several definitions:

1. People who have read the book and [gag] like it. 2. People who haven’t read the book but like the book based on the fact that someone they like likes it.
3. People who haven’t read the book but like the book because they believe it pisses off the liberals.

The amount of overlap will depend on the answer.

Why isnt this film on any of the charts at BoxOfficeMojo.com?

It’s very peculiar that not a single theater that this is showing in released their sales figures.

@Michael — Box Office Mojo might not have numbers until Monday, after the complete weekend reports are in.

Or, it’s possible that The Undefeated isn’t actually playing in any theaters, and that all the Tweets and blog posts are part of an elaborate ruse, like Palin’s electability.

Look, at anywhere from 6 to 7500 dollars per screen, Undefeated did twice as well as Metalstorm: the Destruction of Jared Syn. That totally means that Sarah can win!

(And if you haven’t seen Metalstorm, then what have you been doing with your life?)

@Tasty Pie — You’re not going to believe this, but Metalstorm was my first choice before I remembered A Brooklyn Gorilla.
