A word about the outing of “Rob Landing” as PhillyPUMA.

I saw Kevin’s kind words above, and I wanted to clarify for anyone who was worried about my outing, that “Rob Landing” is a very, very, fake name I made up when I signed up for the throwaway email account I used. 

In fact, I signed up over the summer to request a group discount to the big DC puma conference for lulz.  I didn’t put much time into it, though, because I was busy with work and getting Obama elected and all.

So when PhillyPUMA joined the PAC, “Rob Landing” just kindof came along for the ride.  Danceswithpumas thought that she was outing me, but she wasn’t. I would never let those hags learn my real name.

It does say what kind of horrible person dances is though!  It doesn’t matter that it’s a fake name, she thought it was real.  What a spiteful bitch!

Anyway, I was feeling guilty because I was afraid that there might actually be a guy from Philly out there named “Rob Landing” who might be collateral damage of the Great Puma Blogwar of Aught Nine.  I did some googling, and not really.  It’s not a terribly uncommon name, but most of the hits are for guys named Rob who are landing airplanes.

I guess for my next incursions I’ll continue with the avionic theme; Susan Takeoff, Mary Climbing, Becky Banking, etc.  So when you see Dances outing somebody named “Amanda Autopilot,” well that’s me.

Shafeen, your blog is very nice, but I can’t help but notice that your participation is much smaller than that of your nearest competitors, Uppity Woman & the Black Sphere.

I’m sure you are aware that the older, larger blog wonkette, is instructing their readers to vote for you, not becuz they like your site, or ever bothered to look at it, but in order to spite the Uppity Woman blog because they are/were Hillary Clinton supporters. I can see from your posts that you are honorable as well as intelligent, and would probably rather win an award the old fashioned way, rather than as the result of hatefulness and divisiveness.

Therefore, I have a suggestion for you that will undoubtedly make you a hero with thousands of “puma fans” and increase your blog activity: if the wonkettes prevail, and you win, why not step down and decline the award for the reason that you don’t wish to condone the “fixing” of the races by the older, bigger, bully blogs? There are hundreds of small puma blogs and I guarantee you that you would achieve hero/cult status among them if you took such a bold stand for integrity.

I really can’t speak to on the Confluence because I only control my posts and/or my blog. Since I’ve been there, i objected to the Coulter piece that myiq2xu put up, other than that I haven’t seen anything that’s bothered me.  It came down immediately.  I zap people that dis Michelle Obama and other woman and I’ve blogged that I think that both her and Cindy McCain were off limits for hpersonal comments.  I’m not heavy handed on the eject button except I believe in RD’s commitment to a place where people can feel safe and i do eject flames. i keep wondering why you want to put every one in the same bucket?  if you have a problem with one or two people, I can understand that.  what I can’t understand is why pick on e1?  because it’s fun?  because you can do it?  because you think you can judge hypocrisy better than anyone else?

What she said was straight down the line what she said during the consultation thread. The fact she disagreed with you about Obama’s attitude to UHC is what seemed to trigger the hostility.

So yes, I’d say that’s unfair, and I’ll keep floating on my cloud of moral superiority on that.

I’d also say it’s shortsighted not to have that debate with her if you want to campaign effectively for UHC rather than just use it as a talking point - you’d better be clear what the new administration is looking at if you’re going to critique it.

Dakinikat—Just finished reading this thread and I have have some advice for you.  You have been hanging out in bad company.  If you want a serious blog that talks about real issues you need to divest yourself of the PUMAs as they are a national laughingstock.

In any group, there is a broad spectrum. There are things in the PUMA blogosphere the make me cringe.  There are also things in the DNC that make me cringe, things in the GOP that make me cringe, and things over here, that are making me cringe.  Judging groups people by outliers,imho, is not exactly a useful exercise. 

A year ago, I watched the debates with absolutely no preconceived commitments or notions.  Then I watched the primary/caucus process unfold.  I watched some states get punished for pushing election dates ahead and some states get a pass.  I watched caucuses get gamed.  I did my homework like I always do. AND having been a candidate myself in an election, I come with a viewpoint that is not that of an ordinary voter, it’s an extremely brutal and awful process and once you’ve experienced being a candidate, you can NEVER go back.

What I found was that cheaters prosper and this election proved that in spades. At some point in your life you have to think about what exactly is important to you, well ONE MAN ONE VOTE is one of those things.  I’m not a slobbering hillaryphile.  I’m an ass for the right thing. It’s why I hated jerry farwell and pat robertson and it’s why I see not a lot of space between Obama and Dubya.  A lot of the people at the Confluence have issues.  That’s the nature of a population and the damned bell curve.  But, with me, it’s about the process.  And the process this year was SHITTY and PLAYED.  maybe it’s because I’m a buddhist but I’m a big fan of karma, and NOTHING GOOD EVER comes from a bad seed.  So, anyway, I can publish in journals add it to my vitae if i want to look for creds, but slugging it out here in the blog for what is right is not exactly something you can do IRL.

I apologize for the infrequency of my visits over here of late. I’m a bit swamped, but I had to take the time to express tremendous appreciation for the PUMAs in fighting off the idjits who have been assaulting The Confluence.

I did manage to do one of the Prowls today, and I am reading over here daily. I think, by the way, that some of the insane conduct over the weblog awards is due to the fact that a) the kool-aid drinkers are realizing that P.E. Obama is not who they duped themselves or allowed themselves to be duped into believing he is and so b) they are lashing out at PUMAs and their blogs because c) that is easier than facing up to their own poor judgment.

Nonsense. Hillary attempted to cheat by reneging on an agreement before the primaries began that Florida and Michigan would not count.

If Hillary won the Democratic Party’s nomination by seating all of the Florida delegates, all of Clinton’s Michigan delegates with none for Obama, and a disproportionate amount of Superdelegates then it would have been the greatest travesty of all time.

That’s not what I said, what I said was that they tossed out underwriting standards. I’ve been fighting redlining for years.  There’s a difference between discrimination in lending and being given a green light to lend to people without documentation that can’t possibly pay back loans.  For some reason, the rethugs took some of the academic research along that line and extrapolated it into the meme you mention.  I was as horrified as anyone. What started as expansion of homeownership turned into a free-for-all. That 1977 act is not responsible for the crisis. What is is the combination of easy credit and all those derivatives that managed to escape any kind of regulation.  I’m well on record on that one.

I’d be willing to concede that Hillary and Bill Clinton were helpless victims in a political competition and outmaneuvered by a bunch of third-tier amateurs, if I actually thought it would advance this conversation.

I’m taking Mother Ripley to the hospital for an MRI in the morning.  She’s experiencing an odd, violent twitching in her arm, post-stroke.

Mother Ripley was a medical professional and was her own woman, all her life.  She was my Father’s partner, but she never sat back and asked for directions, in life or love or anything.  She raised two very strong daughters who have done more to help people than most of us could dream of doing.  And she raised me, for what that’s worth.
