Was Triple-J ready to play?

Jesse Jackson Jr. may be Senate Candidate 5, the one disgraced Governor Blagojevich indicated might be receptive to his sleazy senate seat auction scheme:

ABC News is reporting that Rep. Jesse Jackson is “Senate Candidate 5”. The report is attributed to “federal law enforcement sources.”

The charging documents in the Rod Blagojevich case quote the governor telling an aide that an “emissary” from Candidate 5 contacted him and proposed a “pay to play” arrangement in regard to the US Senate seat left open by Barack Obama, which Blagojevich has the authority to fill.

The governor also says he thinks he might be able to get something “tangible, up front” from Candidate 5 in return for the appointment.

Jackson Jr. said this morning he was contacted by federal prosecutors who “asked me to come and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process.”

Asked whether he was Candidate 5, Jackson Jr. said “I don’t know,” but added that he had been told he was not a target of the investigation.

I would not be a bit surprised. There’s something creepy about JJJ. He made some really stupid remarks about Hillary Clinton during the primaries and seems to have inherited his father’s enthusiasm for ham-handed self-promotion.  Good riddance if the Blago scandal brings him down, I say.

But in that scenario, there will be some blowback for Obama, as JJJ was one of his campaign co-chairs. Big problem or little problem?

I wouldn’t write JJJ off yet.  All they’ve got at this point is Blago’s ramblings.  The Rod’s obviously tweaked, so who knows if his claims weren’t just wild fabrications.

Here is Triple-J defending himself. I report, you decide, or something like that ...

Oh, and the fact the Florida is in the BCS title game is enough to claim that 2008 has been the weirdest year ever. Maybe Tebow can speak in tongues during halftime to shake things up.

Meh, let’s just say I have no love for the Jackson franchise. Maybe the guy’s totally innocent, but it wouldn’t shock me if he was willing to have Dad pull some strings on his behalf with a scum-bucket like Blago.

HB, what would really be shocking is if a one-loss team from a nancy-boy conference like the PAC-10 made it to the BCS title game this year. I have less love for the BCS than I have for Jackson, Inc. But when USC lost to the Oregon State Girls’ Synchonized Swim team, a Commodore 64 computer could’ve predicted they were toast. Y’all should stop whining about it.

Little problem. Folks I know in Chicago said no way was Triple J going to get that Senate seat—and no cash was exchanged. I don’t think this is going to hurt Obama, who has bigger problems to deal with, though Blago (Lightning Rod?) did him no favors. Idiot.

I don’t know. I don’t like where any of this is going. I never really found JJJ endearing. I don’t find Rahm endearing either, but one can tell he isn’t dying to jump on the gravy train. he would rather fight dirty for something. But JJJ just seems plain creepy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he or his dad or his friends approached Blago with money for the seat. That’s the way Chicago politics is played and Jesse Jackson is skillful player at that. Did you see the news conference today with JJJ? he looked pissed and defiant, certainly not a good way to reassure the public that you had nothing to do with it.

It just seems like this affair is touching people close to Obama. Even people like Jan Schakowsky and Emil Jones and Valerie Jarrett. Granted there is no proof that they were attempting to do anything wrong. Still tt just doesn’t bode well for someone like Obama who hasn’t even become President yet to get this kind of start. I really am not sure why Obama wanted JJJ to be his co-chair, unless Obama thought JJJ would be a good emissary within the African American community, who before the primaries, didn’t know who Obama was. Obama should have shown some leadership here with Rod and given him names of people he would like to replace him in the Senate, but then again, he probably doesnt have much say in the process and probably was too busy with the transition to even think who the Senate seat should go too. and in any case Obama’ relationship with Blago was professional at best, especially after Blago was getting ensnared in corruption scandals a while back.

I would like to see JJJ out…he just seem to be somebody who would represent Obama well, even if he isnt in trouble this time.

Crap guys, sorry for the fucked up linkage. Kevin goes away and I can no longer provide a proper link.

Betty? Pshaw, I’m a Penn State/University of Delaware/Villanova fan.

I happen to be close with two kids on USC’s squad (Maualuga and Pinkard) and from my expert eye, they’re the best team in the country hands down.

Then again, when deep fried football is a staple of one’s diet it’s natural to assume a conference that boasts the likes of Miss. State, Vanderbilt and Kentucky is ummm ... tastier, but the rational people know better.

Oh, and as for Obama appointments and stuff, my Congressman, Mike Thompson, may just be the next interior sec. Yesterday all I received were six emphatic, terse no comments from his DC office.

btw, there is a great commentary by Steve Benen about how the jackasses at AP and their cockgobblers are already doing their hatchet job for the GOP come 2012

Bimboslice, by 2012, I don’t think there will be much left of the AP, period.

I don’t know.  I’ve been getting calls and text messages from a Chi-Town buddy who grew up down the street from JJ Sr, who actually lives (well, who knows where Sr lives these days) who actually raised his kids in the same Hyde Park area Obama’s house is in.

The scuttle butt among the old line blacks in the next couple of days should be interesting - what they will be talking about won’t be in any paper.

JJ Jr’s brother is connected world wide - getting that kind of cash together isn’t a problem - what will be interesting to see, since I can’t imagine Obama not knowing the kinds of things that go on in Chi-Town politics, is whether or not he had the kind of “come to jesus” meeting with Jackson that he did with Clinton.

Also - was Jackson pissed, after raising all that money for Obama, to be passed over in favor of never elected to anything Valerie Jarret?  Could that have led him to make his own way WITHOUT Obama’s help?

Penn State? Another absurdly overrated team that would ride beeyotch in the SEC. Never heard of the other 2. Sound like basketball schools to me.

Oh spare me the hagiography about USC. I heard enough overwrought paeans from so-called experts on The Greatest Football Team that Ever Played back when the team had real star power in the form of Lienart and Bush. And then the immortals actually played the game. And Texas won.

Rational folks who are objective enough to assess conference and schedule strength think that if anyone got robbed, it was Texas.

Also - was Jackson pissed, after raising all that money for Obama, to be passed over in favor of never elected to anything Valerie Jarret?  Could that have led him to make his own way WITHOUT Obama’s help?

Great questions, Brown Man. Jackson was shouting his desire for the job from the rooftops. But I noticed Obama was distinctly non-committal when asked about the prospect of Jackson taking his old seat. I didn’t expect him to endorse anyone. But he seemed almost cool to the idea, I guess because he was hoping for Jarret.

Despite the worldwide jubilation over this historic election of the first African American president, there are those who have not given a moments pause to destroying Obama.

Like you said, Brown Man, like you said.  PUMAs and wingnuts going crazy all over the place now.  But I still retain my fundamental belief that Obama is the guy with integrity that doesn’t do that kind of politics.  Don’t know what, if anything, was up with JJJ (and I hope nothing) but we’ll just have to let this one play out and see.  Realistically though that big economic meltdown is still out there and maybe, after the initial splash, this whole thing won’t amount to a whole lot (other than putting the reprehensible Guv Helmet Hair behind bars where he belongs.)

Guv Helmet Hair

haha, marin, you nailed it…that’s it..now we know why the guv thought he could get away with corruption…its the hair…all that thick lustrous hair standing out in a sea of balding flabby middle aged men…women find that attractive..he should definitely have his hair up as organ donation, or when he coronates the next guv, just pull out his helmet hair and place it on the next guv’s head.
