Wednesday Morning Open Thread

I’m feeling somewhat churlish toward the human race these days, but the fact that people have Photoshopped Lt. John “Pepper-Spray” Pike into numerous works of art restores my faith in humanity a bit.

I read a comment somewhere that said they didn’t like the (hilarious) Photoshop pics because it tries to put a comedic spin on the gravity of the situation. I disagree, because I think this event represents what pitiful level our country has reached, and if we don’t hold it up to as many people as possible, then the abuse of power will worsen.

Let Pike suffer a thousand humiliations. He earned them.

PS: my favorite is the side-by-side comparison of Pike to the helmeted green pig from Angry Birds. Or Christina’s World. Both are awesome.

Editorial cartoon in the Post this a.m. had cop labeled “Public Opinion” pepper spraying Congress.  I can definitely get behind that movement!

I hear it’s become quite the jokey meme on Letterman or whatever. The power of snark should not be underestimated.

I’m not keen on the moves from Anonymous etc. to give out Pike’s personal details, though. His family have quite enough on their hands living with the bastard ...

A liberal said that? I’ll try to convey how much that surprises me once I’m done scraping my jaw off the ceiling.

They only viewed the pics at all because there was no trigger warning.

Only problem with that picture is that Barney would be more likely to spray himself.

And now we find out that Lt. Pepperspray settled a lawsuit alleging he’d used a gay slur against a fellow officer in 2003.  Guy is apparently an all-around ass.

Whatever you think of Huffpo, they have begun a powerful Video documentary series about the occupy movement.

If you don’t cry at the end (as I did) I will be very surprised.

Chris Hayes said it best on Twitter, “shows the sheer despair”

True.  And Sheriff Taylor would never trust Deputy Fife with a high-pressure canister of pepper spray.  He would, at most, let Barney walk around Mayberry with a single jalapeno in his shirt pocket.

But I just can’t see Barney casually spraying a chemical weapon at men and women who were passively sitting on the ground.  Incompetent, sure?  Sociopath?  No.
