I am just so waiting for the next “shiny thing” to come along so all the wingers/pubs can point to IT and jump up and down and get OVAH the not-a-mosque at not-hallowed ground of 9/11. 

Except after all this the next shiny thing could be so much worse.  My, hasn’t the Republican party become a thing of principle and virtue?

Perhaps the Repubs would prefer that we remember how they honored the first responders to 911—-by refusing to pass the 911 responder health care bill.

But,as we have seen from the jingoistic “support the troops/close the VAs” attitude among the GOPs, moaning over the dead is patriotic, but taking care of the living is traitorous.

Balloon Juice linked today to an interview with Aziz Poonawalla about the whole mosque/not mosque affair and how it dragged every muslim in the US into the scare pit without their permission, and how there is no good outcome for them at this point.  If they move the location then the Rethugs/jingoists will have proven that all US muslims can be shoved around at will; if the Park51 group decides to stay and build, then they’ve handed the rethugs/jingoists a handy midterm election cudgel that will be wielded to elect more rethugs/jingoists.
