Yay! Nothing is getting done anywhere!

I really think we’ve gotten to the point where everything that’s vitally necessary can’t actually be done because it conflicts with the interests of fat cats, and they really believe, like Bond villains, that they can be shielded from the consequences of anything—global financial meltdown, the melting of the polar ice caps, the bankrupting of Medicare—because someone will always bail them (and only them) out.

I keep thinking we need a revival of interest in communism among ordinary people—not because communism worked, but because, in the 20th century, a furious working class that threatened to destroy the capitalist order was the only thing that provided a corrective to capitalist rapaciousness, and that, paradoxically, saved capitalism.  Capitalism needs to be mixed with the right amount of big government—but the only way for that to happen, now that Reagan and the post-Reaganites (including, I hate to say it, Bill Clinton’s Goldman buddies) have destroyed the post-New Deal balance, is to have working people who seem willing to kill or die in their own economic self-interest.  We don’t have that now.  We just have the fucking teabaggers.
