You Call That Music? (ShuffleTronic Open Thread)

Not sure if this little game (which I am parasitically redistributing from ReaLAMErican Industrialist Tim F.) will work here. If not, serve me right for being a moocher.

Grab yer mp3 player (or the remote for your CD player). Hit shuffle. What’s the first song that plays?

Or discuss why people who call soft drinks “pop” are worse than cilantro haters.

Or whatever.

I got Tears for Fears’ Mad World:

(Selected for sound quality. You can watch the original video here, if you must have an 80’s flashback. And the site performs better for you than it did for me.)

Incidentally, the last song I heard on Pandora before leaving work today:

The original blew my young and impressionable mind when it first came out, but Jules’ interpretation works as well.

Especially if you have any buzzes you need to kill, and only 3 minutes and 19 seconds in which to get the job done.

Cilantro sucks, and it’s POP.  I don’t have an MP3 player, and I don’t do random.  So, I give to you my current song of choice.  Enjoy.

I wish my random song had had a Gondry video…

Shawn Colvin—“I Want It Back.” Kinda like what the Teabaggers say about their country. By the way, ever notice how many of those bastards come from places that say “soda” (or the even-worse “sody”) and think cilantro is a damn anti-American furrin’ herb that only them illegals would use?

@LeftCoastTom, it’s like I don’t even know you!

I love cilantro, grew up in Quebec where we called it either soft drinks or liqueurs, and now live in Toronto, where we call it pop. Deal.

My random: She Said by Plan B. Thought he was a woman when I first heard this on the CBC.

(“It” being fizzy drinks, not cilantro. But you knew that, right?)

Growing up, the only kind of coke available to our kind was cilantro flavored. That’s why I will weep uncontrollably at the sight of salsa. Ahhh, she is a bitter and soapy flavored thing, this life.

Damn, ipod. Feeling aggro, huh?

Tom Tom Club’s Wordy Rappinghood.

[I grow old… I grow old…
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.]

Where I grew up, it’s “pop”.

Cilantro tastes like soap.

And the song is “Faker” by Miike Snow.  Look them up. They’re a “pop” band.

Placebo “Running Up That Hill”.  That’s my favorite cover song.
