Your new Republican party [UPDATED]

The “jailbirds” ... “ape” ... the “lowest common denominator” ...

You’re going to be hearing a lot more of this with a black president in the White House and the candidates on the right will not call it out (or equally deplorable rhetoric) for fear of inciting their lunatic base.

The GOP is turning their party over to the Michael Savages of America. A likely Hoffman win in NY today will ensure that it’s a done deal.

Liberals, panic all you want. I’m looking long term and couldn’t be any happier. If you think the US is predominantly a nation of angry white people, you don’t know your country very well.

RELATED: Mentors.

RELATED: As promised in the comments, here’s Tim Pawlenty consumed by THE FEAR…

Pawlenty just couldn’t say that he’s happy to have Olympia Snowe in the Republican party. That’s pretty stunning. Even when it’s served with bread and butter.

p.s. Look for more use of the term “range of behavior” to identify who qualifies for the new teabaggerrific GOP

I’m reserving judgement on NY-23 until the numbers are in. The Siena poll has Hoffman at +5, but the undecided number shot to 18%. This could very possibly go to Owens.

“What would happen if a million men went up to these schmucks and told them they looked like idiots?”

Well, that tactic sure killed rock ‘n roll deader than shit back in the 50s. I say they should give it a go.

I’m with you in non-panic mode. It’s as if Code Pink had successfully stormed the DNC. I’m shaking in my boots. Not.

On the contrary, the timing could work out exquisitely well. The teabaggers collected a scalp in NY and will likely install a Becktard in Congress. Bachmann plans to host a teabag-fest in the House, a guaranteed freak show.

The new, nuttier-than-a-squirrel-turd GOP will have plenty of time to put teh crazy on full display between now and the 2010 elections, which by history’s measure should be their moment of triumph.

I used to think the predictions of the death of the GOP were so much hyperbole and Dem triumphalism, but it really does appear that the party is in a death-embrace with the wingnuts. They can’t completely disregard the teabaggers because, among other things, they’re highly motivated (and willing to do a lot of the grunt work in campaigns), but they’re also the rather ugly public face of the party.

Reagan let the nuts in back in ‘80, and that bill is finally coming due.

I agree wholeheartedly.  No panic here, just sheer amusement.  I would guarantee this installing of a couple of birferbaggers now and in 2010 will surely backfire on them as surely as McCain picking Palin assured him of 18 million deadenders voting for them.

You should have seen Pawlenty on Morning Joe this morning.  He’s terrified of the base. Scarborough was trying to get him to say that Olympia Snowe was good for the Republican party and Pawlenty just wouldn’t say it. I’ll add the video to this post when I get back from voting.

This should put all fears to rest:

Now, obviously, there are times when divisions in parties can be damaging. But what’s happening in the GOP right now looks to me more like healthy turmoil than destructive recklessness, more like vigorous competition than bitter fratricide. It could get out of hand. But for now, the ideas are more Reaganite than Buchananite, and the spirit more problem-solving populism than demonizing demagoguery.

That was Bill Kristol, whose unbroken wrong streak extends back to when he uttered his first word, mistakenly calling his mama “dada.”

As I was drifting off to Thera-Flu land the other night, I recall momentarily returning to consciousness as Savage took a swipe at something Roy Edroso had written in the Village Voice.

I don’t recall the specifics, only a warm, happy dream image of throwing roses, panties and a hotel room-card onto Roy’s keyboard.

Betty, in Bill Kristol’s defense his mother is quite man-ish and his father quite girly.

I say bring on the crazies, especially in next years primaries.

I’m starting to suspect the WE’RE DOOOOMED comments I see on other lefty blogs are Concern Trolling of the highest degree. Apparently I’m supposed to fear either random violence, which is a non-starter for someone who lives in D.C. Armed goons attacking en mass are another option. Again. D.C. Even the fricking water & sewage authority has cops.

Shut. Up. I didn’t live through eight years of The Terrorists Will Win to have it replaced with The Racists Will Win.

If you think the US is predominantly a nation of angry white people, you don’t know your country very well.

You’re right.  It’s not.

But the electorate in midterm elections is, as a rule, predominantly some group of motivated voters.  In 2002, it was post-9/11 pants-wetters.  For 2010, the GOP and Rupert Murdoch (but I repeat myself) are working very, very hard to make sure it’s angry old white people.

If they succeed, the mainstream press will take it from there, informing us that What It All Means is that “the public” (not the motivated voting bloc) seeks a change from “the excesses of Obamaism.”

Feel free to start puking at that “analysis” now, to avoid the crowds a year from now.

Snort.

I win. Where’s my set of steak knives?
