The Hunchback of Notre Dame vs. The Hunchback of Eureka College

Uncanny, no?

With apologies to Betty Cracker, who owns the “Separated at Birth” franchise hereabouts.

Posted in honor of “Dutch” Reagan’s Super Bowl tribute video, which inspired me in ways it wasn’t intended to, natch.

State-of-the-NFL-Playoffs-Open-Thread-Union Address Opposition Response

Please continue to comment on KK’s shitty thread below. I’m just exercising my version of the Fairness Doctrine.

NFL Playoffs Open Thread

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers at 3:00 PM ET and then a repeat of this…

..when the New York Jets defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 6:30 game. (Strange probably disagrees with me about this.)

This thread is dedicated to J. (the “J” is for Jets).

The Skree Party

image

I got tired of knocking myself on the head with a kitchen mallet, so for a change of pace, I tuned into the Greek chorus of doom surrounding Obama’s appointment of Mssrs. Daley and Sperling to key administrative and advisory roles—and even read a bit of Obama-and-the-Dems-failed-us in comments right here at the ‘Roast. The headache didn’t go away.

To summarize: Weee-told-you-so-Lucy-in-a-veal-pen-snatching-the-football-away-from-Charlie-Brown-under-the-bus-Obama-is-an-empty-suit-corporatist-who-took-my-penis-the-GOP-always-wins-the-Dem’s-messaging-sucks-blah-blah-blah.

To which I could respond: Change-has-always-been-incremental-grow-up-here’s-your-goddamn-pony-Naderite-most-progressive-president-since-FDR-health-care-and-student-loan-reform-finreg-DADT-repeal-would-you-rather-have-McPalin-blah-blah-blah.

But you know what? Fuck it. I don’t want to write about it, and you don’t want to read it. Instead, I’d like to share a couple of thoughts about why Democrats, liberals, progressives, “thanks-progressives” and our ilk have a greater communication challenge and tougher sledding in general when it comes to getting shit done:

Department of REALLY fucking bad ideas

image

I’m sure a new dog would be thrilled to contribute to your rehabilitation, Mr. Vick! And hey, my 7th grader has always wanted to visit Europe. Why don’t you call Roman Polanski and see if he has a spare room?

Jeebus. Some people should just shut the fuck up. Forever.

He Hate Thee

image

This weekend, Buffalo Bills receiver Steve Johnson dropped a pass that would have resulted in a game-winning touchdown in overtime against the Steelers. He blamed God:

image

That’s kind of refreshing since athletes like to credit Jesus for wins; shouldn’t He get the blame for losses too? However, after getting raked over the coals all over Twitter, Johnson issued a clarification:

image

As a young fellow, Johnson can be forgiven for not knowing this, but he really should be blaming an even Higher Power:

The truth is out there, Stevie…

Tebow who?

True freshman Trey Burton got SIX touchdowns last night during the Gators’ romp over Kentucky. He rushed. He passed. He caught the ball.

(Hey, let me have my fun. We’re playing ‘Bama next week.)

Hoping for a Miracle, Struggling Pirates Francise Promotes Pope Benedict from Triple-A

Faced with the looming prospect of an 18th consecutive losing season, beleaguered Pirates management has once again dipped its bucket into the nearly-empty talent well of the Bucs’ Indianapolis Indians farm club. Having previously called-up pitcher Brad Lincoln and outfielder Jose Tabata with a fanfare that dwarfed their on-field impact—and as yet unable to coax consistent production out of heavy-hitting third-base phenom Pedro Alvarez—the team is putting all its chips on rookie hurler Pope Benedict XVI.

Despite a mottled minor league career and an ERA that’s creeped as high as 9.51, the Pope has sparked excitement among a long-suffering fan base that’s starved for even a feeble blip in the Pirates’ flat-lined fortunes. “He’s 83 years old, so I’m not looking for him to whiff a lot of batters,” observed tailgater Mark Henschel. “But he baffles the lefties, and he’s got a sinker that looks jut like an inside curve, but transubstantiates like a bitch about ten feet in front of the plate. Also, I’ve seen him project a blinding glow from his forehead that throws off even monster humanist sluggers. I don’t figure him to carry any games, but as a change-up guy he brings a lot to the party.”

The Pope will don the Jolly Roger for his debut performance at PNC Park tonight against the Cincinnati Reds.

World Cup Final Open Thread

I’m rooting for Oranje for my Dutch brother-in-law, but a win by either of these teams will be fine with me (I fell in love with Spain when I visited there). It’s been a very enjoyable Cup overall. Just looking forward to a great match to close it out.

Ghana: Yam-Worshipping Enemies of Christ and the Constitution

Really, I read it here.

1-1 as I type. God help us crush all non-American athletic teams, because we’re so fucking exceptional and shit.

UPDATE: 30 more minutes of this boring crap? The Devil does exist.

UPDATE 2: Aiiiiyyyeeee! It’s 2-1! Save us, Sarah!

UPDATE 3: Soccer: The Liberal Plot to Destroy America

UPDATE 4: Why are baseballs made of human skin and not animal skin?

UPDATE 5: Fewer Panels for All: Innovative 2010 World Cup ball design is product of collectivist, wealth-redistributing Adidas.

UPDATE 6:

UPDATE 7: Could gene-doping be the key to US World Cup victory in 2014?

USA! USA! USA!

image

Just got back from watching the US World Cup victory over Algeria in a packed local Brooklyn pub with my Dutch brother-in-law. He’s now in a car headed to the airport with my wife’s sister and my adorable niece. Thanks so much to Betty Cracker and StrangeAppar8us, two of the best and funniest polibloggers on the planet Earth, for holding down the fort while I was jammed up with fun family affairs and living in what was essentially Brooklyn’s smallest hostel for six days. Normal blogging from me will resume at some point tomorrow.

Hey, but how about that goal by Donovan?

Simpson Lawyers Appeal Nevada Robbery, Kidnapping Convictions

Per CNN:

Attorneys for disgraced gridiron great O.J. Simpson return to court Friday, arguing that the judge at his 2008 armed robbery trial in Las Vegas did not adequately guard against the looming shadow of his notorious past.

Seriously, people, let it go. That was 43 years ago, and it was Beban’s injuries and Andrusyshyn’s kicking that tipped the game to USC.

“My Old Kentucky Home” Derby Day Open Thread (w/ Videos)

NOTE: It’s a beautiful day today in NYC and I want to stay off of the computer before I head off to another Kentucky Derby party, so I’m cheating and reposting my Derby entry from last year (with a few additions). Enjoy.—KK

Here’s a collection of random (and mostly short) video performances of the song “My Old Kentucky Home,” ranging from interesting to cute to weird, to celebrate this festive day.  Consider this an open thread to chat about the Kentucky Derby or whatever else you want.  Cheers.
