Geeker Sutherland

Did you ever wonder what the show 24 would be like if it was set in 1994? No?  Well, for starters, it would be much funnier.

It almost makes me wish September 11th never happened

ADDENDUM: The post title is actually a quote from my good pal Colin.  Several years ago we were talking about how much 9/11 was being exploited and he said (sarcastically, of course), “It almost makes me wish 9/11 never happened.”  It is one of the funniest things anyone’s ever said to me.

OOPS: Forgot to hat tip TPM.  Also, they have reprinted a very insightful comment regarding the video from one of their readers.

Big Black—The “Pigpile” Video

“Pigpile” is a live recording of Big Black‘s final tour in 1987. The video was taken at the Hammersmith Apollo concert hall, London and is currently out-of-print. This is pretty damn near the entire thing. Playlist below the fold. Enjoy.

Bedwetters in ‘08

Tom “Teh Terrah!” Tancredo is a sad and stupid little man:

(via Balloon Juice)

MORE: A campaign commercial so vile and tasteless that YouTube added a porn block in front of it: “This video or group may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by YouTube’s user community.”

UPDATE: Some folks on YouTube are questioning whether this is real or not.  It’s real.

FINALLY: I’ve asked this question before, but it’s one you don’t see asked often enough.  If the goal of terrorists is to terrorize people, aren’t Republicans like Tancredo (and Giuliani and Romney and Thompson and ....) aiding and abetting the enemy by drumming up THE FEAR to get elected?

I dare you not to vomit in your mouth a little

Go on, I dare you.  Click it.

Sample lyrics:

Rudy is the guy to beat
He can take on all the heat
He is tough , Knows how to lead
in New York, He’s seen them bleed.
He will keep this country safe
Doing everything it takes
Global Warming, it won’t matter
if we get bombed and all get splattered.
After the election you can bet
We’ll be safer from all those threats
Chill’n’, and Reminincisn [sic] on days before 911.

*blort*

And if you’re a little confused, this video was made by Rudy supporters. It’s a parody of the Fergie video, not the Giuliani campaign.  Glad I could clear that up for you.

The Sunday Selector: November 11th, 2007

Jonathan Bell

  • Big Jesus Trash Can: At the beginning of the month Egg City Radio posted a few Birthday Party boots (scroll down) and I didn’t get a chance to listen to them until now.  Good christ, if “Hacienda, Manchester, UK, 1982” doesn’t tear your face off, you’re faceless. And while you’re there, you might as well get stoopid.
  • “The picket line has a delicate, unique ecosystem”: A writer for the The Daily Show composes a strike diary for the The New York Times.
  • The Next 9 Children’s Characters That Should Come Out of the Closet: “If your given name was Jazz Hands McCoy, it wouldn’t mean that you were gay.”
  • If You Pick Her Too Hard (She Comes Out of Tune)—Download Little Richard’s terrific unreleased album Southern Child from The Heat WarpsNow.  Thank you.

It’s Alright With Me

I’ve got some busy work to do, so enjoy one of my favorite videos ever: Tom Waits performing “It’s All Right With Me” from the the Cole Porter tribute album Red Hot + Blue.  Directed by Jim Jarmusch. It’s just black and white and Tom and that’s all you need.

If you don’t “get” the writers’ strike…

... take it to The Office:

(Thanks FREEwinona!)

p.s.: You can check out The Offices’ web stuff here. “He has a snow globe drawer.” I love Kevin Malone. Great first name, too.

Some of the finest acting you’ll ever find clogged up in the YouTubes…

“What the fuck does loaf rhyme with?! Loaf rhymes with nothing! ... Oaf is cheating!”

Fuck Michael Yon and his shitty photothis deserves a Pulitzer.

The Sunday Selector—11/4/07

Thor Vs. Beelzebub

  • CHROME DREAMS: Go grab the bootleg acetate version of Neil Young’s never-released Chrome Dreams before Aquarium Drunkard takes it down. Stellar stuff. More info on it here.
  • REAL PROGRESS IN AFGHANISTAN!: Pass the bong!
  • THOMPSON’S DRUGFORCE: Maybe the head of Fred Thomson’s “Airforce” can be his Ambassador to Afghanistan.
  • SANDRA’S HAVING HER BRAIN OUT: I wasn’t aware that the Soft Boys’ fun-as-shit debut album A Can of Bees, featuring Robyn Hitchcock, has been out-of-print for a few years, but Egg City Radio is graciously giving it away (scroll down). (Hint: delete the track “(I Want To Be An) Anglepoise Lamp” that isn’t marked “Live” and doesn’t have a track # ... it’s actually a repeat of “Ugly Nora.”)

Did I mention Hitler yet?  *cough* Hitler *cough*

Check out raging neoconman Norman “Please Bomb Something” Podhoretz, Rudy Giuliani’s Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, debating Fareed Zakaria about Iran on PBS.
